Steve Nichols

Steven “Steve” Hull Nichols, 52, of Corry, passed away on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. 

Steven was born on Oct. 23, 1970, in Corry, Pennsylvania. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, David L. Nichols and Shirley K. Nichols; and brothers, Robert S. and Rev. Dr. Roger C. Nichols. 

Steve graduated from Corry Area High School in 1989 and Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Steven had a passion for the arts having studied music and theater in college. He began his career working at the Mac-Haydn Theater in Albany, N.Y., where his passion for the arts continued to thrive. He also spent time touring the country with Sesame Street Live as a Wardrobe Master. However, the majority of his career was spent in the hospitality industry

working with such brands as Hilton, Marriott, Choice, and Cobblestone Hotels.

Steven’s proudest and fondness moments were found opening the Cobblestone Hotel in his hometown of Corry, Pa. There, he provided big city quality with small town values by treating his guests, his reputable team, and his community with high quality customer service. Steven strongly believed in providing personable and professional customer service to others above self. He was dedicated, loyal, and hard working, willing to go above and beyond to ensure things were always handled to the highest standard.

The Cobblestone Franchise recognized the leadership traits in Steven, sending him across the country to train and assist others in successful hotel openings. Steven was recognized with several honors and awards during his tenure with Cobblestone. He received the 2015 Small Business of the Year Award, 2017 Property of the Year Award, and a Citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as an up-and-coming leader.

Steven was also very active in the community through volunteer service on the Advisory Board of The David L. Nichols Trust, The Impact Corry Board, The Corry Area Chamber of Commerce Board, and as a past President of the Corry Area Arts Council. Steven truly believed in giving back to the community through service to others.

He is survived by his brother Dr. Thomas M. Nichols and wife Cindy and nephew Chad T. Nichols of Fredericksburg, Virginia; niece Melissa A. Mercado and husband Matthew of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; sister-in-law Tracy Nichols of Joplin, Missouri; niece Jackie Peters and husband Lee of Carthage, Missouri; niece Jodie Reed and husband Dustin of Joplin, Missouri; several great nieces and nephews, and his two dogs, Ace and Buddy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Corry, Pa. 

A private family interment will be held prior to the service in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
