Bernard L. “Bernie” Kearns, age 88, of Harborcreek Twp., passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Clarksburg, W.Va. on April 21, 1922, son of the late Blaine and Emma Crimm Kearns.

A resident of Erie most of his life, Bernie was the owner and operator of Bernie’s Exxon at 12th & Parade Streets for many years. Previously he had worked as a commercial fisherman. Bernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII in the European Theater. He was a member of the East Erie Turners, Siebenbuerger Club and American Legion Carl Neff Post #571. Bernie was a member of St. James R.C. Church.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Kay Stewart Kearns; a grandson, David Buzzard; five sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years, Marie Sunday Sisco Kearns; two daughters, Rosemary Buzzard (Bruce) of Cambridge Springs and Patricia Italiani (Judd) of Erie; one son, James Kearns of Harrisburg, Pa.; four step-children, Thomas Sisco, Robin Sisco (Karen), Maria Kuhn (William) and Gary Sisco (Jennifer); six grandchildren, Lee, Michael, Alicia, Jimmy, Darren and MaryKay; six step-grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Jeremy, Zachary, Blake and Zack; six great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James School, 2635 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510.
