At a February Spartansburg Borough Council meeting, Council discussed the possibility of selling the borough’s old plow truck at auction.
At a March 7 meeting, Council members voted unanimously to sell the 1996 Ford F-350 surplus truck at Tri-State Auction Services in April. The truck will be sold with the plow and salt spreader.
Councilman Nathan Blakeslee made the motion.
“That was the best thing to do with it,” he said.
The auction will take place April 22, 2023, at 11510 Route 6, Corry.
“I think it would make a great farm truck,” Blakeslee said. “A lot of farmers go to this auction.”
Blakeslee also commented that selling the truck at auction would bring fair market value and be easier for the borough than trying to sell by sealed bid.
In other business, many of the streetlights have been changed out from sodium vapor to LED lights. Councilman Steve Anthony said the difference is, “Like night and day. It’s a lot brighter.”
Council was apprised that liquid fuels money from the state has arrived to the total of $12,915.92.
Council was recently given the crank handle for the emergency spillway at Clear Lake Dam. The crank was previously in the possession of Scott Morton at Platt’s Mill. However, when Morton retired, he passed it on to Council.
Council members discussed options regarding where to keep the crank so it is available in an emergency. They came to an agreement that Council President Ben Byler and Councilman John Bova will contact Morton for directions regarding when and how to open the spillway. The crank will then be kept at the borough building.
