UNION CITY — Maplewood scored the game’s first five points and led 12-2 early in coasting to an easy win over the Union City girls on Thursday, 55-38.

Maplewood improved to 3-4 overall, 1-1 in region 3. The Lady Bears fall to 0-6 and 0-1.

Megan Kimmy made 4 of 11 free throws and led UC with 11 points, Jillian Lowther with eight. Megan Brown chipped in six points.

For Maplewood, Emily Ray had 19 points and eight rebounds. Sam Long posted 12 points and five assists.

Union City travels to Saegertown on Monday.

Union City’s wrestlers had little trouble topping Oil City on Thursday night, the Bears collecting six pins in a 51-12 mismatch.

Registering falls for coach Ed Margie’s matmen were heavyweight Greg Reinke, Shane Rankin (119), Jared Burger (215), Jesse Vasquez (189), Adam Green (171) and Lewis Pisani (152).

Greg Reinke decked his foe in 18 seconds. His brother Josh Reinke (130) won by decision as did Nick Tomcho (145), while Nate Wienczkowski (135) scored a 16-0 technical fall.

Fairview was too much for the Union City swimmers last night winning the boys meet 136-33 and the girls meet, 138-28.

Elias Tillotson was UC’s only winner, first in the diving with 157.21 points.

Fairview improved to 4-0 in Region 2. The Lady Bears are now 1-4, the boys 0-4.
