UNION CITY — Corry grad Phil Gernovich brought his Erie First Christian Academy boys basketball team to Union City Tuesday night and scored a 62-29 victory.

“Erie First was strong inside and outside,” said assistant coach Omar Chase. “After a close first quarter, they just wore us down.

“The kids played hard and never gave up, but Erie First’s overall balance did us in,” he noted.

UC, now 1-16, was without senior forward Clay Webster who is sidelined due to injury.

Jason Dougherty had nine points and five rebounds, Nate Gardner with six points. Brenden Fox made three steals, Bronnan Higley with three assists.

• Union City won the JV game 59-54 to improve to 6-10.

Erie First won the first meeting by three points on its floor in a low-scoring game, 37-34.

“I told the guys we needed to pick up the offense and we did,” said coach Chase. “We had 16 team assists, that shows we shared the basketball as a team.

“Andrew Hoban, Jason Dougherty, Miles Parker and Bronnan Higley all stood out,” he claimed.

Hoban made four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, plus two steals and a pair of blocks.

Dougherty tallied 15 points and had five rebounds. Higley canned a dozen points to go with five assists and five boards. Parker handed out six assists, Nate Baxter with five rebounds.
