Salem scores twice in sixth to stun Corry girls

WORCESTER, MASS. — This one looked like an easy one. But runs can be hard to come by in tournament action.

Corry, the Pennsylvania Senior state champs, were 2-0 heading into today’s game versus Salem, Massachusetts, 0-2.

Maybe there’s something to the homefield advantage.

And making the bunts pay off.

Salem scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and stunned Corry 2-1, handing the locals their first loss in pool play.

It was scoreless for four innings.

Corry finally scored in the fifth as Alex Puckly singled with one away. Emily Lewis followed with a base hit past the third baseman. When Puckly zipped into third, Lewis went to second.

That brought up Sarah Zaczkiewicz. The bunt was on and it worked. The throw went home but Puckly slid in safely. Sarah “Z’ raced right down to second, but Corry left two runners stranded.
