WARREN — Corry’s junior varsity football team lost a close game to the Warren Dragons last night, 21-13.
Corry scored first on a halfback pass from Drew Dunmire to Cody Bailey. The PAT by Andy Hajec was good to make the score 7-0. During the second quarter, the Beaver defense flushed the Dragon quarterback out of the pocket and he found a receiver wide open, in the end zone for a touchdown, the extra point tying the game at 7.
Warren then scored again late in the period on a QB run, the PAT no good, leaving the Dragons ahead 13-7.
Corry scored with 1:30 left in the second on a nice run by fullback Tyler Engle to tie the score at 13. The kick attempt was blocked.
There was no scoring the third quarter, leaving things at 13-13.
Warren mounted a drive in the fourth and scored again on a quarterback run, then converting the 2-pointer for a 21-13 lead.
Corry fought back with a drive of its own but turned the ball over on downs inside the 20-yard line,
“The team played well, offensively we ran the ball well led by Drew Dunmire, Matt Cragg, Tyler Engle and Ethan Redrup,” reported coach Travis Carey.
“Our drives stalled due to penalties and turnovers,” he claimed. “Defensively we were aggressive, led by Brandon Hawley and Curtis Burkhart, but we also gave up too many big plays.”
