GROVE CITY — Shannon Baker does a lot of things with her arm, and her bat.
Thursday it was her legs that helped Corry score a tense 4-3 Region 6 win over Grove City.
In the top of the seventh, Baker scored the winning run on a medium fly ball off the bat of Emily Zaczkiewicz. Baker slid into home knocking the ball out of catcher’s glove for the winning run.
Corry improved to 5-0 in the region and 8-2 overall. Grove City is now 2-3 and 5-6, respectively.
“Coach (Dale) Henderson and I thought the girls played tough when we needed it the most,” said assistant coach Bob Williams. “It was one of those games you have to win in the playoffs. We manufactured and scrapped for every run.
“We will fix a few things before Tuesday’s game against Hickory, and will be ready for a chance to take control of the region.”
Corry won the wild JV game, 18-9, collecting 30 hits.
Rachel Dingfelder had five hits including a double and triple. Jill Williams had four hits, three for doubles. Kaylee McCray also had four hits. Maddie Merkle had a double and triple.
Williams picked up the win in the circle.
Corry faces a key region game Tuesday at Hickory.
