UNION CITY — Even a four-point play wasn’t enough for Union City’s boys last night against powerful North East.

Buddy Arnold pulled off that rare feat with 3 minutes left in the third quarter to cut the lead to just three points.

But the Pickers then pulled away and won the region 4 contest, 74-49, on Tuesday.

“We just ran out of gas, our boys played really hard,” reported UC coach Mike Schrecengost. “The Pickers can score quickly.”

Sean Bogert nailed three of his six 3-pointers in period three.

Arnold netted 18 points in the loss, and is now just 37 away from 1,000.

Bryan Landis and Brett Smith finished with nine points, Tyler Williams eight.

Bogart had 24 and Jordan Kitchen 19 for NE, now 3-2 overall.

North East won the JV game, 47-40. Lonnie Maynard led the Bears with 14 points, John Hartman with 13 and Justin Miller 10. Hartman made two 3-pointers.
