ERIE — A couple of critical mistakes in the final 3 minutes turned what looked like an apparent win for the Erie Explosion into a loss in their Professional Indoor Football League debut.

The Explosion led returning PIFL runner-up Lehigh Valley by eight points — with the ball — when a botched snap followed by a strip-sack enabled the visiting Steelhawks to rally for a 50-43 win Sunday at Erie Insurance Arena.

Lehigh Valley (1-0) used a Shane McSweeny touchdown pass to Brandon Renford followed by a McSweeny scoring run with 18 seconds to play to spoil the Explosion's first PIFL game.
