Corry girls basketball coach Meghan Sisson was looking for a special birthday present on Thursday night.

However, visiting Girard brought no cake or candles. By the end of Region 6 contest, the YellowJackets had a 52-25 victory.

The loss was the 40th straight in region play for the Corry girls who are now 0-5 in league play this season.

“I'm not disappointed in how we played, I thought we played well,” said Sisson. “Girard is a very good shooting team, which makes them hard to defend. I thought we did a great job of keeping the ball out of the paint.

“But unfortunately for us Girard, especially (Lauren) Davenport, shot well from the outside,” she noted.

Davenport drained five 3-pointers, three in the second stanza. She finished with 18 points.

Girard, who led 7-4 early, took control with a 17-7 edge in period two.

Corry’s Ryann Brundage and Haley Kurelowech both hit eight points in defeat. Brundage pulled down 13 rebounds,  Kurelowech with eight.

Brundage hit two baskets in period two, Kurelowech with a pair of hoops in the third quarter.

Rachel Dingfelder made four steals, while Alexis Cubero had five rebounds.

Girard won the JV game, 42-10. Davia Fisher was high with four points.

Corry has an afternoon game on Saturday at North East, JVat 1 p.m..
