After losing their only game of the season last week against Rossbachers, the State Police Major girls wanted to go out with a victory in the last game of the regular season. They did just that Monday by topping TJ’s, 12-2
After giving up two runs in the first inning, SP pitching then clamped down and the defense played error free and turned two double plays.
Brooklyn Goodsel led the way on offense driving in six runs on two doubles, while Tiarra Shields had two singles.
TJ’s got its only hit of the night by Ashleigh Troyer who led off the sixth with a single up the middle.
In that inning, SP would turn a 2-3-2 double play to end the game as catcher Goodsel fielded a bunt in front of the plate, threw to Sami Lehner at first who threw it back to gun down a runner at the plate.
Goodsel picked up the win and Kaylee McCray and Maddie Merkle helped in relief.
Cayla Suchar took the loss for TJ’s and Rachel Dingfelder came in and pitched great going three no-hit innings and allowing only one run.
State Police finishes the season as champs going 14-1.
• Rossbacher Insurance Service remained hot as it topped Robert’s Furniture 13-5 in a makeup of a rainout earlier in the year.
The insurance ladies gave up two runs in the first and stormed back to take a 6-2 lead when Katelyn Sipes led off with a walk followed by a RBI single from Kaylee Street and a triple by Jill Williams.
Rossbachers scored four runs on walks after the triple by Williams, who scored on a botched relay throw.
RIS would score the next seven runs before Robert’s came back and with three.
Williams led the offense with a single and a double to go along with her triple, while Kaylee Street had two hits.
Monica McCray had the lone hit for Robert’s as Sipes won the game. McCray picked up the loss.
Rossbachers will play against TJ’s at the high school field today at 6 p.m. to finish the Major girls season.
