NORTH EAST — Corry’s 10-year-old boys are in the final six teams standing in the 28th annual Farm Invitational after a wet weekend.

On Sunday, Corry clipped FLAG Red 7-2 before losing 9-3 to the MYAA Nationals.

Those Nationals drubbed Corry in Little League all-star play, 16-0.

Against Wattsburg, Alex Shopene threw four no-hit innings, allowing one run with nine strikeouts, before Bryton Lyon gave up two hits and fanned five in two innings.

Shopene doubled in Lyon and Kenny Nichols in the fourth. Nichols doubled home Austin Goodsel and Shopene in the sixth.

Against FLAG, Corry scored five runs in the last innings of a game limited by time. Tyler Burlew struck out five and allowed one run in four innings, Nichols yielding one run in the fifth.

Nathan Labowski and David Anderson both had two hits.

Burlew tripled in a run in the fourth and scored on Labowski’s base hit. A walk, two errors and Anderson’s single produced three runs in the fifth.

Sunday night, Corry trailed MYAA National just 3-2 in the top of the fourth. Lyon doubled, Nichols was hit by a pitch and Shopene banged a two-run single. The potential tying run was thrown out at the plate on a close play.

MYAA roared back with six runs off a double, an error and four straight singles.

Corry scored once in the fifth when Joey Perry singled and came around on passed balls.

Goodsel started and gave up three runs in two innings, Kameron Beeman charged with seven hits and six runs in two innings pitched.

“The defense and pitching have been very solid,:” said coach J.W., Bracken. ‘We had several pick-offs and rundowns highlighting the defensive play.

“Our hitting needs to improve in clutch situations,” he noted.
