Corry sent 11 wrestlers to the 2015 Nittany Lion Open held last Sunday at Penn State University.
This event is considered the largest one-day tournament in the entire state of Pennsylvania.
Corry had one placewinner in Tyler Burlew with a second place in the 7-8-9th grade 157-pound division.
Burlew earned a 2-1 victory over Joseph Yanis of Minisink Valley and then a 3-0 victory over Exeter’s John Ross Harrell. In the finals against Zachary Becker of St. Marys, Burlew fell just short dropping a 1-0 decision.
Also competing in the 7-8-9th grade division at 97 pounds was Elijah Eckonen. He lost by fall to Sebastian Santos of NJ Supreme and then dropped an 8-2 decision to Dylan Frye of All American.
Corry’s final competitor in the 7-8-9 grad division was Lucas Peterson at 87 pounds. He lost in his first match by a tight 9-6 decision to Sean Donnelly of Lower Dauphin. Carlisle’s Donovan Kerns then blanked Peterson 5-0 in his final match.
In the 11&12 -year-old division, Corry had five wrestlers competing. At 115 pounds Caden Bidwell lost by decision his first match 5-3 to Bryce Bracchy of Gladiators. He came back his next match and decked Branden Chandler of Independent in just 40 seconds. Timothy Smith of CDYW then decisioned Bidwell, 7-0.
Two wrestlers competed in the 105-pound bracket. Hayden Linkerhof and Lucas Dyne both went 0-2. Linkerhof fell to Bryce Molinaro of Hazeltown in 52 seconds and then lost a close one to Alex Weaver of Tyrone 2-0. Dyne lost his first match to Gage Musser of Commodore Perry 5-0 and then lost by forfeit to Nathan Higley of Dog Pound Wrestling.
At 80 pounds, Liam Silvis was pinned by John Cunningham of Iron Eagle in 1:28. In his second match, he was pinned by McKenzie Bell of Somerset in 1:17. Corry’s final representative in the 11&12 class was Kayden Reyda. He fell by fall to Carson Wagner of Dark Knights in his first match in 1:56. Reyda then lost a barnburner to Nathan Pelesky of Weaver Elite, 4-3.
Trey Proper was Corry’s lone entrant in the 9&10 division. At 80 pounds, Proper lost his first match 6-0 to Dennis Nichelson of Connellsville. He won his second match 3-2 over Gavin Conolly of Edinboro. Proper then faced Riley Parker of Canton Matmen and fell in 1:56.
In the 7&8 division, Jackson Dyne and Cody Proper represented Corry. Dyne was in the 55-pound bracket and lost his first match by a close 3-2 decision to Santino Micci of Redhawk. He then lost to Jackson Slotnick of Vipers, 15-0. In the 60-pound class, Cody Proper lost his first match to Austin Bellamy of MD Buffalo Soldiers. He then scored a 4-0 win over Caleb Rader of Red Hawk. Proper’s next match was to be against Jordan Joslyn of Chautauqua Lake, but a forfeit gave Proper the win.
He then faced off with Reese Christine of Super Dale. Proper decked him in 2:23. Finishing out his day he lost 8-0 to Caden Bellis of Tioga.
