Corry’s girls scored the first five points and quickly had a 10-point lead last night coasting to a 63-29 win over Union City.

The Lady Beavers evened their record at 2-2, UC falling to 0-3.

Emily Greer had 19 points in the first half and finished with 25.

Miranda Cummings came alive hitting for a dozen points, Megan Carney with 11 and Tiffany Jaggi nine — all off 3-point baskets.

Megan Kimmy again led Union City with 14 points.

“I was very pleased with the victory, it was a frustrating first half as we gave up 21 points and that was not acceptable for our team,” reported coach Sarah Grab. “ I challenged them at halftime telling them that I didn't want Union City scoring more than 25 points, so we came close to that only allowing eight points in the second half.

“I told the ladies that our defense will create offense for us,” she noted. “I was especially pleased with our team basketball. In the second half we really executed our offense and cracked down on the defense.

“I was very pleased that almost everyone scored, we played team basketball,” Grab said. “Every girl is a contributor and plays a crucial role in our success.”

Cummings, a sophomore, had eight points in the first quarter. Carney contributed nine rebounds, Jaggi with five.

Greer pulled down 16 rebounds and was unstoppable for the UC defense.

Corry got its first junior varsity win in a low-scoring contest, 21-13. Darla Brown led the Beavers with eight points, Hannah Kondrlik with seven.

Corry has another home game on Saturday night against Titusville, a team the Beavers edged by a point last year down there.

“If we play Corry basketball and play as a team, there is no doubt that we can't come through with another win,” Grab claimed.

Titusville is also 2-2 after beating Maplewood last night, 61-28.
