MOUNT JEWETT — Corry Senior boys all-stars came out short Friday falling 9-2 to M.E.T.S. in a loser’s bracket contest in the Section 1 Tournament.
Saint Marys, who defeated Corry in the first game, won the title with a 4-2 win over M.E.T.S. on Saturday.
“Our boys never gave up the whole way,” reported Corry coach Joe Marrs. “I can’t say enough about the heart of these guys right down to the last out.
“The experience at the section level is something that will prove to be vital for these boys in the years to come,’ he claimed. “Everything fell in the gaps for M.E.T.S. and their flawless defense did us in.”
Khalid Abu Saleh and Steven Hollabaugh drove in three runs each for the winners. Matt Burchard allowed just four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Ethan Brown started and went two innings, charged with seven runs, five hits and three walks. Joe Karpenko pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs. Nick Marrs pitched a scoreless inning, walking one and fanning one.
Jimmy Donaldson and Ethan Brown scored Corry’s runs, Karpenko with the lone RBI.
The hits were by Karpenko, Jack Gill, Donaldson and Robby Brown.
“We will take what we learned this year and improve on it, and hopefully get a little farther next year,” said coach Marrs.
