Corry’s middle school A volleyball team went undefeated until the North East Tournament finals, when they lost to Harbor Creek 26-24.
In pool play, Corry defeated Girard 30-26, Northwestern 30-13, Fairview 30-15, and Seneca 30-9.
In the quarterfinals, Corry beat Iroquois 25-16, then in the semifinals beat Fairview 25-8.
“We had seven girls at the tournament, and they played well throughout the day,” noted coach Pat Goodsel. “Maddi Vona continued her strong jump serving, as well as being a consistent passer and hitter. Morgan Ahl played good defense, had several great swings for kills, and had success with her jump serve.
“Courtney Perkins was a force at the net, earning several kills and being aggressive in blocking; she was also very consistent with her strong, top-spin serve,” she said. “Meg Goodsel set and served well all day, and got a number of blocks while playing middle hitter. Kendra Mitulski had several strong swings for kills, served well, and picked up several balls on defense. Rylyn Bailey had a great day at the service line and did a very nice job of setting the second ball high. Alexa Yoder had some nice free ball passes, and picked up a few balls on defense.
“It has been a good season for this group,” Goodsel claimed. “We had a 14-1 regular-season record, first place at one tournament, and second place at another tournament. I'm excited to see what they'll bring to the high school teams in the fall.”
