Union City’s Josh Lesik has been named the PA Middle School State Coach of the year for Class AA.

Every season the PWCA votes for the varsity head coach, varsity assistant coach and junior high coach of the year for both AA and AAA.

The varsity coach of the year awards are given out at the PIAA State Tournament in Hershey while junior high awards are given out at the annual Hall of Fame banquet in April.

Each district elects their coach of the year. The winners then are placed on the state ballot and voted for at the PIAA State tournament by the PWCA board.

This season, Lesik won the state award and will receive the award at the PWCA Hall of Fame Banquet on April 12 at the Ramada Inn in State College.

Lesik's outstanding season included:

• Undefeated dual meet season 13-0

• Six PAJW state qualifiers

• One PAJW state medalist

• Union City is the fourth smallest school in District 10, yet had a roster of 16 wrestlers

• The team consisted of all seventh- and eighth-graders, with no freshmen

• UC finished in the top five of every tournament entered and never finished behind a AA team that didn't include freshmen
