UNION CITY — Things started out just the way they finished a year ago for the Union City girls basketball team.

The Lady Bears dropped their final nine games in finishing 1-21 last season.

Last night, taller Seneca broke things open after a tight first quarter as the visiting Bobcats spoiled UC’s opener, 63-23.

Seneca, up just 8-6 after 8 minutes, erupted for 28 points in the second quarter. A 10-2 run to start period three put the game away.

Twelve players scored for Seneca, Clarissa Sonney leading the way with 14 points.

Megan Kimmy had 10 points and made six steals for Union City. Mackenzie Dougherty came up with eight rebounds.

Union City plays again at home tonight against Erie East.
