Frederick J. “Fred” Clayton, 86, of North Center Street, Corry, Pa., died Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Corry Manor.
He was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Valentine and Lorraine Pierce Clayton.
Fred was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry Area High School in 1950. He worked for several companies in Corry including Associated Springs, and McInnes Steel and owned and operated Tamarack Tavern from 1976 to 1986. He then worked for Munsee Excavating and was self-employed in construction with his son, James. Fred retired in 1998.
He was a member of the Corry VFW, American Legion and Moose Club. Fred enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii several times with family and friends, playing pool and golfing. Mostly he liked to be working on various projects as he loved being busy.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a son, Robert Clayton; a sister, Alice Moore; and a brother, John Clayton.
Fred is survived by his wife, Connie L. Messinger Clayton, whom he married Dec. 30, 1966, in Union City, Pa.; two daughters, Lisa Tinko and her husband Chad of Kernersville, N.C., and Donna Cox and her husband Dave of Sarver, Pa.; a son, James F. Clayton of Corry, Pa.; and a sister, Ruth Williams of Corry, Pa.
He was also survived by six grandchildren, Brendon Tinko (Morgan), Matthew Clayton, Scott Chaffee, Jessalynn Tinko (Brea), Karli Tinko and Shaunna Simpson (Allen); nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside service will be held privately by the family.
