Shirley A. McCray, 79, of Union Street, Corry, Pa., died on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Corry Manor.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1936, in Corry, Pa., a daughter of the late James and Ruth Rooney.
Shirley was raised and educated on Lindsey Hollow Road, where she attended the one room school and later attended Corry Area High School. Her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Later, Shirley worked 25 years for the Corry Area School District, retiring in the mid 1990s. She and her husband started Phil's Excavating and Trucking in the early 1980s.
She enjoyed flower gardening and yard work, also crocheting, ceramics and canning fruits and vegetables. Shirley especially enjoyed giving her grandchildren rides in their golf cart.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two stepsons, Sam and Ronald McCray; a son-in-law, Mark Sventek; and three sisters, Florence E. Swanson, Opal Nichols and Mabel Smith.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Phillip C. McCray, whom she married on Aug. 1, 1980, in Corry, Pa.; two daughters, Kimberly Merritt and her husband, Johnny, and Tina Sventek, all of Corry, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Cindy McCray of Florida; a son, Dale Giacoma and his wife, Diane, of Corry, Pa.; and two stepsons, Richard McCray of Corry, Pa., and William (Bill) McCray of Spartansburg, Pa.
She is also survived by three sisters, Ellen Carr and Roberta Rugar, both of Corry, Pa., and Barbara Rodger of New Hampshire; five brothers, James Rooney and Wallace Rooney and his wife, Marcella, all of Corry, Pa., William Rooney of Ashville, N.Y., Tom Rooney and his wife, Doris, of Jamestown, N.Y., and Jerry Rooney and his wife, Kathleen, of Steadman, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Andrew Sventek and his fiancée, Sarah, Lyndsey Sventek, Ryan Haner and his wife, McKenna, and Kyle Haner; three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Aurora and Lauryn; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Marvin Hutchison will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg, Pa.
