Mildred M. Cooney, 88, of Hare Creek Road, Corry, Pa., passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at her home.
She was born Nov. 10, 1932, in Corry, Pa., a daughter of the late Ervin and Greta Knupp Palmer.
Mildred was raised and educated in the Corry, Warren and Clymer, N.Y., areas and graduated from Clymer Central High School. Following her marriage, she stayed home to raise and care for her family. Later, she and her husband opened their home to many foster children from 1967 until 1993.
She was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Corry. Mildred enjoyed listening to music and playing the guitar and accordion. She also liked hunting, fishing and ice fishing with her husband. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed writing poetry.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death Aug. 21,1994, by her husband, James Patrick Cooney, whom she married July 7, 1950, in Warren, Pa.; a daughter, Laurie Rozelle; and a brother, Charles Palmer.
Mildred is survived by two daughters, Karen Sue Ruff and her husband George of Newberry, S.C., Polly Anne Cooney of Corry, Pa.; five sons, Dean P. Cooney and his wife Patty of Corry, Pa., Michael J. Cooney and his wife Christine of Spartansburg, Christopher J. Cooney, Dee John Cooney and Kerry Lee Cooney, all of Corry, Pa.; a sister, Joy Barrels and her husband Dick of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a brother, Paul Palmer of North East, Pa.
She is also survived by several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at Wrightsville Community Church, Wrightsville, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at 11 a.m. Pastor Kenneth Morris will officiate. Due to CDC regulations, masks and social distancing will be required.
Burial will be held privately by the family.
