Raymond Alfred Gourley

Raymond Alfred Gourley, 99, of Union City, has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven. He departed his earthly home on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. 

He was born on May 29, 1918, in Bloomfield Township, Crawford County, the son of the late Joseph Peter Gourley and Minnie May Nichols Gourley.

He was an active member of the Brown Hill United Methodist Church for many years and in recent years, had attended services at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Union City.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend.  With his strong faith in God, he was an example to everyone around him.

In addition to his church involvement, he worked on the family farm in Cambridge Springs alongside his wife, Ruth, for over 50 years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Union City Senior Center.  He also spent a lot of time with his family. And, in recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his very close friend, Helen Snyder.

Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Frances Wilkins Gourley; a sister, Eva Buchanan; a brother, Robert Gourley; a daughter, Jill Gourley; and a grandson, Gregory Troyer.

Raymond is survived by two daughters, Carole Roden and her husband, Richard, of Union City, and Janice Troyer and her husband, Eldon, of Union City. Other surviving family members include four grandchildren, Jody Powell and her husband, Steve, of Union City, Richelle Ransom and her husband, Chris, of Waterford, Scott Roden and his wife, Stephanie, of Huntsville, Ala., and Janelle VanNoy and her husband, Ryan, of Canton, Pa.; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa Fox and her husband, Kurtis, Jarett Powell, Kyra and Conor Ransom, Grayson Roden, Cailyn, Brenna and Drake VanNoy; and three great- great-grandchildren, Rory, Blakely and Jazzy Fox.

Family and friends may call at Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home Inc., 62 S. Main St., Union City, on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Christian & Missionary Alliance

Church, 2 Dowman St., Union City, Pa., on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Hunsberger officiating. Dinner will be served following the service.  

Interment will be at Loomis Cemetery in Bloomfield Township next to his wife, Ruth.
