Esther M. Varrassa, 95, of South Center Street, Corry, Pa., and a resident of Corry Manor for the past year, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Saint Vincent Hospital, Erie, Pa.
She was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Sherman, N.Y., a daughter of the late George and Jennie Wassink Peck.
Esther was raised and educated in Sherman, N.Y., attending local schools. Following her marriage, raising and caring for her family became her main priority. Esther later worked at the former Bulkey Dunton Company in Corry for 12 years and for 20 years at Erie Plastics Corporation. She retired from the finishing room there in 1983.
She was a member of the Corry Memorial Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Red Hatters. Esther will be remembered as a strong woman with a quick wit and good sense of humor. Her world revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death on Jan. 19, 1996, by her husband, Thomas J. Varrassa, whom she married July 29, 1942, in Wheeling, W.Va.; a sister, Elizabeth Nolan; and two brothers, Gerald and Eugene Peck.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Sondra Crowell of Corry, Pa.; a son, Thomas Varrassa and his wife, Marilyn, of Corry, Pa.; and a sister, Ethel Scarpine of Westfield, N.Y.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicole Sloane, Chandler Crowell (Neely), Cherie Stadler (Peter), Scott Varrassa (Michelle) and Molly Gates (Leif); 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call at Bracken Funeral Home Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Larry Myers, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Corry, Pa., will officiate.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
