Robert E. "Papa" Bemis, 75, of North Center Street, Corry, Pa., died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Corry Manor.
Mr. Bemis was born on November 12, 1935, in Mayville, N.Y., a son of the late Ross E. and Bessie Crawford Bemis.
Robert was raised and educated in various areas of New York and Pennsylvania. He worked for various manufacturing companies throughout his life, including Hayes Mfg. and, most recently, Smith Meter in Erie, where he worked for more than 30 years. He retired in 1997.
He loved working with his hands building things, including building carousel horses that were used as a display for the Corry Artists Guild. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Robert loved animals, especially his dogs. He was also known as a prankster.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell “Moose” Bemis; and two best friends, Joe Zelinski and “Wild Bill” Johnson.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jennifer D. Hayes Bemis, whom he married on November 28, 1998, in Riceville, Pa.
Also surviving are two daughters, Victoria Petersen of Lansing, Mich., and Penny Hetrick and her husband, Gail, of Corry; a son, Robert Bemis and his wife, Tracey, of Lawrence Park, Pa.; a brother, Ralph Bemis of Irvine, Pa.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Al Bemis and his wife, Jan, of Corry.
There will be no visitation or funeral service.
