Stanley D. VanTassel, 73, of Port Orange, Fla., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 10, 2011.
He was born in Riceville, Pa., on February 8, 1938, and moved to Florida in 1960.
Working in construction, he was a construction superintendent for local contractors and was in charge of building or remodeling condominiums on the beachside.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and college and professional football games.
Stanley was predeceased by his daughter, Sue Leeson; his brothers, George, Howard and Bill; and a sister, Gladys.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Stanley Jr. of Chanute, Kan., Marianne (Paul) Massie of Fayetteville, N.C., Rick (Denise) of South Daytona, Fla., Leslie (Chris) Friedland of Deltona, Fla., and Stacey (Mark) LaPiere; her sisters, Linda Hamm of Georgia, and Edna (Harold) Beckwith, Lois Wetherbee, Carol Kepple and Joy Lubbert, all of Pennsylvania; and his brothers, Gary and Gerald of Pennsylvania and Victor of Ohio.
Also surviving are his stepchildren, Robert Steiner of Port Orange, Lori Alonzo of Jupiter, Fla., and Lynn (Jeff) Bayles of Okeechobee, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Stanley will also be missed by his buddy, his loyal Jack Russell terrier, Jack.
Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of a noon memorial service at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach, Fla.
