Shirley V. Larson, 92, formerly of Corry, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at her residence in Springhill Senior Living Community, Erie, Pa.
Shirley was born February 15, 1919, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Flavia L. and Ralph E. Larson.
As a young girl, Shirley moved to Corry, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Corry High School in 1937. She then graduated with an associate degree in 1939 from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. Afterward, she returned to Corry and began working at Corry Jamestown Corp. After a few years, she became a secretary at Raymond Mfg. (Associated Springs-Barnes Group). She was employed there for more than 30 years, retiring in 1974.
Shirley was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Corry and also a member of the Thiel College Alumni Association. She enjoyed playing bridge, and spending time at her cottage at Findley Lake, N.Y. For a few years, she wintered on St. Simons Island, Ga.
She is survived by a sister, Jeanne L. Finn and her husband, James, of Holmes Beach, Fla.; a niece, Barbara J. Proctor and her husband, Donald, of Erie, Pa.; a great-niece, Susan E. Martino and her husband, Nicholas, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a great-nephew, Michael P. Proctor and his wife, Gretchen, of Falls Church, Va.; and several cousins.
No calling hours will be observed.
Friends my attend a memorial service Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 201 E. South St., Corry. The Rev. Brian Eiss will officiate. A reception will be held after the service in the church fellowship hall.
The Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, is handling arrangements.
