Dorothy M. Yaiko Gronostaj, 94, of Union City, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2019, at Saint Vincent Hospital.
She was born in Clymer, N.Y., on Feb. 14, 1925, a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Kasprezak Yaiko.
Dorothy graduated from Clymer Central High School. Following graduation, she worked at GE, Corry Jamestown and Peek ’n Peak. She married John Gronostaj on Augt. 9, 1947, at St. Matthias Church, French Creek, N.Y. She was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Union City and the Union City Senior Center. She volunteered for many charitable organizations. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on April 24, 2016. They were married 68 years. She was further preceded in death by two brothers, William and Thomas Yaiko; and four sisters, Regina Yaiko, Nancy Engel, Bridget Zebrowski and Clara Rea.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, John W. Gronostaj and his wife, Linda, of Albany, N.Y., and David A. Gronostaj and his wife, Ruth, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Leonard Yaiko of Marianville, Ill.; and one sister, Sally Hajec of Corry. She is further survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at St. Teresa’s Church, 9 Third Ave., Union City, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Msgr. John Swoger will be the celebrant.
Burial will be that afternoon for the family at St. Matthias Cemetery, French Creek, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Teresa Restoration Fund, 9 Third Ave., Union City, PA 16438.
The C.S. Warthman Funeral Home Inc., 69 N. Main St., Union City, is in charge of arrangements.
