Andrew M. Froman, 92, of West Columbus Ave., Corry, Pa., died on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 1, 1922, in Collier, Pa., a son of the late Joseph and Susan Vanchik Froman.

Andrew came to Corry with his family as a small boy. He was educated in the Corry area, attending St. Edward’s School (now St. Thomas) and Spencer School. At an early age, he helped operate his father’s 235-acre farm.

In October of 1943, Andrew enlisted in the U.S. Army. His military specialty was Automotive Mechanic 014 and his military qualification was Carbine Sharpshooter. He fought in several campaigns, including New Guinea and Southern Philippines, Luzon. He received decorations for the AP Theater with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation with two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead and a World War II Victory Medal. Andrew was honorably discharged in February 1946 from Camp Atterbury, Ind., with the rank of staff sergeant. In 1949, he was a police officer for the city of Corry.

On May 20, 1950, Andrew married Catherine Mokwa and together with their four children, they operated a dairy farm on Route 77, near Spartansburg. He went to a local agricultural school while running the dairy farm and also worked various jobs in the area. He worked for Mercer’s Garage as a school bus driver, for the post office as a sub-mailman and had also been employed at General Electric and Linten’s Shipyard.

After 21 years on the farm, the family moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where Andrew worked for the Foremost Dairy and also as an apartment manager. He retired from Kaneohi Marine Base as a grounds maintenance supervisor. In 1986, Andrew and Catherine decided to move back to Corry, where they could enjoy their grandchildren. When back in Corry, he worked as a security guard for Clear Lake Lumber and Corry Contract.

Andrew was a member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus  Council 425 and VFW Post 264 in Corry.

In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kondrlik; four sisters, Anna Hudock, Mary Wascak, Susan Vadovich and Sophie Soncick; three brothers, Joe, John and George Froman; and a granddaughter, Ashley Maine, in 2010.

Andrew is survived by his second wife, Catherine Mokwa Froman; a daughter, Patricia Maine and her husband, Gary, of Corry, Pa.; three sons, Andrew “Sonny” Froman of Corry, Pa., James Froman and his wife, Napua, of Meadville, Pa., and Joseph Froman of Hawaii; and a nephew Frank “Bill” Vadovich of Hawaii.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jesse, Katy, Heather, Jackson and Mary; five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Halle, Mac, Tyler and Trenton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Andrew was a soft-spoken, kind-hearted man who was proud to be an American. He lived life to the fullest as long as he could and impressed upon his family that even though he lived to be 92, for them, it still wasn’t long enough. We will miss him every minute of every day.

There will be no visitation.
