Carolyn B. (Wevers) Beckerink, 86, of Clymer, N.Y., passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, at Corry Manor.
She was born in Bear Lake, Pa., on May 22, 1934, to Wilton and Ida (Legters) Wevers. Carolyn attended Panama schools, where she was a 1951 graduate and valedictorian of her class. She went on to attend Grove City College and received an associate degree in Business. Carolyn was employed as an office worker in various businesses in Jamestown prior to her marriage to Robert L. Beckerink on Sept. 23, 1959. Together Carolyn and Robert operated the Beckerink Dairy Farm for the next 55 years, the last 35 years with their son Phil. She took great pride in the mastery of making maple syrup, spending many springtime hours boiling sap in Carolyn’s Sugar Shack. Carolyn was active in the community; she served as the first woman on the Clymer School Board in the early 1980s and also found time to teach cooking and baking classes for 4-H. She was also a longtime active member of the Abbe Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school and served as the church secretary for a number of years.
Carolyn is survived by her three children: Rod (Marion) Beckerink of Jamestown, N.Y., Philip Beckerink of Clymer, N.Y., and Janna (Wayne) Anderson of Frewsburg, N.Y.; granddaughter, Tera Anderson; stepgrandson, Josh Karpeh; her brother, Lester (Wyona) Wevers; brother-in-law, Arthur Hodges; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Carolyn is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert L. Beckerink, who passed away Sept. 23, 2020, and an infant daughter, Rachel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Abbe Reformed Church, 595 Clymer-Sherman Road, Clymer, NY 14724; or the Clymer Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 31, Clymer, NY 14724.
