Raymond ‘Ray’ E. Merchant, of Hermitage, and formerly of Corry and Sharon, was promoted to glory on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020. He was 86.
Ray resided in Corry, Pa., for the past 42 years. Before retiring he was the Postmaster in Spring Creek, Pa.
Ray was a lifelong member of The Salvation Army. After serving in the U.S. Air Force Ray married Lois Nottingham Abbey in 1956. Ray was married a second time in 1975 to Patricia Mann Montague. Ray will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his former wife, Patricia Merchant of Corry, and seven children. Raymond L. Merchant, Sharon; Susan Walter and her husband, Leslie, Chambersburg; Carol Duperree and her husband, Roger, Warwick, R.I.; Gary Merchant and his wife, Maree Beth, Hermitage; Jay Merchant and his wife, Luz Angelica, Sharon; stepson Russell Montague and his wife, Jodee; and stepdaughter Stacy Hennigh and her husband, Greg; a stepdaughter, Christina Borton, preceded him in death in June of 2020.
Ray was proud of his more than 50 grand, great, and great- great-grandchildren. Ray loved music, bowling, going to his hunting camp, softball, all sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and he loved to laugh and tease friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Elsie (Scott) Merchant; and sister Catherine; and two great-grandsons, Zachary and Silas.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 660 Fisher Hill, Sharon, Pa. Face masks are required. A funeral service will be held there on Monday, Dec. 7, at 11a.m.
