Ronald Edwin Jones, 86, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Spartansburg, Pa., died on
Friday, Oct. 4, after an extended illness.
Ronald was born July 22, 1933, in Spartansburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (Burlingame) Jones; and parents, Edward and Lena (Smith) Jones of Spartansburg; and his brother, Donald Jones of Corry.
Ronald served in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He retired from the Postal Service as a rural mail carrier after 30 years. He enjoyed staying active by traveling, dancing, and riding his bicycle, which he rode from Corry to Florida twice in his 60s. He also organized dances at the VFW in The Villages in Florida and brought in entertainment at the Hawthorne Recreation Center in Leesburg, Florida, to raise money for charities.
He was the father of Rebecca (Jones) Jackson and her husband, the late Jay Jackson of McMurray, Pa., Patricia (Jones) Gern and her husband, Kerry of Warren, Pa., Robert Jones of Florida; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Jones and his wife, Diana of Mill Village; and sister, Emma Jane (Jones) Knapp and her husband, Dave Knapp of Port Richey, Florida.
Services will be held privately for immediate family only.
