Celeste D. Burrous, 89, of Ridge Road, Corry, Pa., died on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Corry Manor.
She was born on Aug. 30, 1926, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of the late Charles J. and Etta Diedrich Vogt.
Celeste was born, raised and educated in St. Louis, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1944. On Aug. 14, 1945, she was married to Arland Burrous in Galeton, Pa. They moved to Corry in 1948, and she worked for National Bank for 40 years. She retired from there as a supervisor of bookkeeping on July 3, 1987. Following her retirement, she lived in Virginia Beach and St. Louis before returning to Corry in the late 1990s.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corry where she was a former Sunday school teacher, church secretary and a deaconess. Celeste enjoyed sewing and knitting.
In addition to her parents, Celeste was preceded in death by her husband, Arland Burrous; a sister, Charlotte Vogt; a brother, Carl Vogt; and a grandson, Daniel Berlin.
Celeste is survived by three daughters, Eileen VanPelt of South Lebanon, Ohio, Juanita Berlin and her husband, Albert, of Oil City, Pa., and Mary Burgoon, of Emporium, Pa; She is also survived by six grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at McCray Cemetery, Route 89, Corry, Pa. Family friend, Steve Rieck, will officiate.
Arrangements are under the care of the Bracken Funeral Home Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa.
