John L. Raines, 61

 

 

John L. Raines, 61, of East South Street, Corry, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at Corry Memorial Hospital. He was a loving husband, father and best friend.

He was born Oct. 18, 1959, in Evansville, Indiana, a son of Michael Hardy Sr., of Las Vegas, Nev., and the late Eileen Hardy.

John was raised in Orange County, Calif., and graduated from Buena Park High School in 1977. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Corry where he worked for Cablevision as a lineman. Eventually he became a supervisor for Spectrum where he accumulated 39 years of dedicated service to the company.

When he was younger, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going camping, his dogs, collecting trains and Matchbox toy cars and bowling. He had a passion for his '67 Ford Fairlane, the NHRA and NASCAR. In recent years, John developed a love for Jeeps. He took joy in watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and any baseball game. John especially loved spending time with his family.

John was a member of the 27th Degree Mason of Erie and Corry Lodge 365 Free & Accepted Masons. He was also an active member of the Millcreek Legion Post 773, Sugar Grove AmVets, Sugar Grove Legion Post 758 and the Loyal Order of the Moose  Corry Lodge 98.

In addition to his mother, John was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hardy II (Mikey).

John is survived by his loving wife, Tammy Hepler Raines, whom he married May 27, 2000, in Union City, Pa. He is also survived by four daughters, Nicole Arison and her husband Terry of Corry, Pa., Lindsay Raines and her companion Ben Dyne of Spartansburg, Pa., Valerie Raines of Erie, Pa., and Vanessa Lutton of Panama, N.Y.; three sisters, Karen Swenson and her husband Rick of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Kimberly Raines (Kimmy) of Bull Head City, Ariz., and Sherry Baker and her husband Todd of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a brother, Greg Raines of Bull Head City, Ariz.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Lucas, Caiden, Alex, Jackson, Brayton, Carter, Dynali,  Madelyn, Bodie, Zaine, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Bracken Funeral Home Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday at Relevant Church, 100 W. South St., Corry, at 11 a.m. Pastor Lucas Johnson will officiate. The service may be viewed on the Bracken Funeral Home Facebook page starting at 11 a.m.

A private burial will be held in St. Mathias Cemetery, French Creek, N.Y. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Corry American Legion, 1460 Sciota St., Corry, Pa., on Saturday at 3 p.m. It is open to all friends and family.
