Richard A. ‘Dick’ Phelps


Richard A. "Dick" Phelps, 82, of Route 6, Corry, Pa., died Friday, June 26, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, Pa.

He was born April 14, 1938, in Rootville, Pa., a son of the late Farl and Rhoda Phelps.

Dick was raised in Rootville, Pa., and as a young boy he moved with his family to Union City, Pa., where he graduated high school. Following graduation, he went into the United States Air Force as a mechanic on the airplanes. After his honorable discharge, Dick worked at Crotty Chevrolet Buick for a few years as a parts manager. He then became a truck driver for Foamex until he went to Presque Isle Trucking. Dick worked there until he retired in 2001.

He was a member of the VFW in Corry and enjoyed woodworking, golfing and collecting coins for his grandchildren. Dick especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Phelps and Larry Graham; four sisters, Nettie Connor, Elizabeth Gawlinski, Mary Bennett and Dorothy Waugh; and a brother, Everett Phelps.

Dick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Heybeck Phelps, whom he married Dec. 31, 1986, in Corry, Pa.; three daughters, Tammy McCray and her husband Reed of Corry, Pa.; Susan Eger and her significant other Jim Whiteley of Columbus, Pa., and Cindy Bachko of Corry, Pa.; a son, Todd Phelps of Corry, Pa.; and a brother, Howard Phelps and his wife Judy of Union City, Pa.

He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date.

Burial will be in Rootville Cemetery, Centerville, Pa.
