Eugene Burns, 79, of Albion, went to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, March 20, 2010. He was born November 4, 1930 in Hiram, Ohio, son of the late Thomas and Alice Mathews Burns.
Eugene served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He and his wife moved to Albion in 1963 and opened the Albion Auto Parts store. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, he was very active in the Albion Lions Club, and he was a Cub Scout leader for many years.
Eugene enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was an avid reader. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Spencer Burns, whom he married September 8, 1956, five daughters, Lorinda Neubauer of Albion, Karalee Space and her husband, Joe, of Harborcreek, Victoria Ekl and her husband, Joe, of Rochester, Mich., Tricia Biron and her husband, Donald, of Prospect, N.Y., Sandra Krayeski and her husband, John, of New Windsor, Md., two sisters, Kathryn Davison of Columbus, Ohio, Karen Klatt and her husband, Thomas, of Bristol, Ill., four brothers, Vincent Burns of Youngstown, Ohio, Wallace Burns and his wife, Peggy, of Youngstown, Ohio, Bruce Burns and his wife, Alma, of Canfield, Ohio, Alan Burns and his wife, Carol, of Girard, Ohio. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion. Memorials may be made in honor of Eugene to the American Heart Association , 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505, and/or to the Albion Area Lions Club, P.O. Box 366, Albion, PA 16401.
