Ruby E. Nelson, 88, of Cottage Street, Columbus, Pa., died on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Corry Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 28, 1932, in Bear Lake, Pa., a daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine Mallery Smith.
Ruby was raised and educated in Bear Lake, Pa., and graduated from Panama Central High School in 1950. Following graduation she went to work at Jamestown Mutual Insurance and worked there until she stayed home to raise and care for her family.
Ruby was a member of the Corry First United Methodist Church and Martha’s Circle. She was very active in the church, serving as the Librarian for many years. She was a former member of the International Porcelain Artist & Teachers Association and enjoyed painting china. She was very artistic. Ruby loved spending time with her family and said they were some of her most treasured blessings.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death on April 19, 2009, by her husband Edward Andrew Nelson, whom she married on Feb. 21, 1956, in Winchester, Va.; a sister, Mary Ellen Jaquith; and a brother, Samuel Smith.
Ruby is survived by two sons, Tim Nelson and his wife Stacie of Columbus, Pa., and Curtis Nelson and his wife Donna of Bear Lake, Pa.; two brothers, Thomas Smith Jr. and his wife Beverly of Panama, N.Y., and Perry Smith and his wife Marilyn of Bear Lake, Pa.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kara and Kevin, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at Relevant Church, 100 W. South St., Corry, Pa., on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at noon. Pastor Les Utegg and the Rev. Jonathan Fehl will co-officiate.
Due to CDC regulations, masks and social distancing will be required.
Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Pa.
