John ‘Jack’ Owens

John “Jack” Owens, 82, of Airport Road, Corry, Pa., entered heaven on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. He was surrounded by his family at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.

Jack was born on July 14, 1937, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Robert and Gertrude Dahlstrand Owens. 

He was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry Area High School. He spent his entire career as a structural draftsman with Roger’s Structural Steel until its closing, then with Amthor Steel until he retired. After retiring, he realized he wanted to continue working so he joined his brother, Bob, at LTT Welding in Corry where he worked part time.

Jack was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Corry. He served many terms on the church council, a position he took very seriously. His favorite pastime was cutting, chopping and splitting firewood. He enjoyed spending long hours in front of his fireplace with his dog and cat at his side. He definitely loved the outdoors and spent many hours hiking through the woods where he lived. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them and looked forward to their visits.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn “Linker” Owens, whom he married Jan. 30, 1960, in Corry, Pa..; an infant daughter, Heidi L. Owens; son, Lonny A. Owens; grandson, Jonathan L. Seymour; infant sister, Betty Lou Owens; sister, Marjorie McCray; two brothers, Richard “Dick” Owens and Willis “Bill” Owens.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Owens-Kostiuk and her husband Kevin Kostiuk of Loveland, Colo.; brother, Robert “Bob” Owens of Corry; three granddaughters, Carly Comella of Lakewood, Ohio; Brooke Utegg and Lynsey Utegg of Corry, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 201 E. South St., Corry, Pa. Pastor Brian Eiss officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1600 Peninsula Dr. Suite 15, Erie, PA 16505.
