Richard Lee Marrs Sr., 80, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Dec. 24, 2019, in his lifelong home surrounded by family.
Born June 21, 1939, in Sidney, Ohio, he was a son of the late Eugene C. and Edna M. (Weber) Marrs, also of Columbus.
Dick enjoyed his life in many ways. He cared for his parents and family and enjoyed life on his farm. He enjoyed his animals, gardening, collecting and tinkering with antique tractors, golfing, and hunting. His unique ability to build things and make old things work was a real talent that will not be forgotten. He loved to hunt morel mushrooms every year in the spring and would travel to Michigan and Wisconsin where they grow abundantly. A lifelong farmer at heart, he loved and cared for his many animals and gave them all special names, too. For many years Dick held office every day at Country Foods restaurant where he spent time with his friends and drank coffee. He offered good advice and had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke with the grandchildren and others when they visited. Dick attended many of the grandsons’ baseball games and was so proud of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy (Akam) Marrs; his sons, Richard “Rick” Marrs, Jr. and his wife Susan of Corry, Pa., and their children, John Marrs and his wife Joanne of Mt. Wolf, Pa., and their children, Randy “Bub” Marrs and his wife Amy of Columbus, Pa., and their children, Joe Marrs and his wife Caryn of Corry, Pa., and their children; his daughter Cindy (Marrs) Fietzer and her husband Kyle of Manawa, Wisconsin, and their children.
He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six siblings and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Jim.
A very special thank you to the LECOM Hospice team members for their wonderful care and to Pastor Brian Eiss.
