Kathleen F. Stewart Cunningham

Kathleen F. Stewart Cunningham, 76, of Clymer, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Corry Manor.

Kathy was born April 19, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to Marshall Stewart and Lillian G. Starost Stewart.

She graduated from St. Joe’s Academy in Fremont, Ohio, and soon after, married her high school sweetheart, Dale Cunningham. They moved from Gibsonburg, Ohio, to Clymer, N.Y., in 1975 to start a new life as a family. Kathy was full of energy and had a passion for life. Everything she did, she did with her whole heart; from the depth at which she loved her family and pets, to the devotion she put into her faith and work - nothing was done without purpose and deep reflection. She held a number of positions in her life from Dental Hygienist to Auditor and Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She is also the published author of “Motherless Child”- a fascinating book she wrote and was extremely proud of.

She is survived by her children, Shawn (Gerry) of Perry, Ohio, Eric (Gretchen) of Edinboro, Pa., and Shana DeBoe (Joe) of Findley Lake, N.Y. Kathy and Dale leave behind five grandchildren, Donovan, Melena, Ellen, Grant and Aiden.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Dale of nearly 59 years; as well as her two beloved “little brothers,” John and Bill Cunningham; and her niece, Jennifer Cunningham.

Known for her flashy smile, wit and Irish charm, she is undoubtedly telling Saint Peter the best (and likely most inappropriate) jokes he ever heard and winning her way into their hearts just as she did into the hearts of everyone her life ever touched. No one who loves her is surprised that she followed so closely behind the only man she ever loved and no one is surprised she chose Saint Patrick’s Day to join him.

Per Kathy’s wishes, there will be no calling hours observed, however a private service will be held at a later time.

Kathleen was once the Administrator at Corry Manor and the family would like to offer our sincere thanks to their staff for the love, compassion and Oreos they shared with her. They played a significant role in the lives of both Kathy and Dale and the family is forever grateful.

Memorials can be made to Corry Manor and Saint Matthias Catholic Church in French Creek, N.Y., in Kathy’s honor.

Arrangements are being handled by David J. Dengler, Spitzer Funeral Home, Clymer, N.Y.
