George L. “Roy” Palmer, 82, of Hammond Road, died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at his home in Eustis, Florida.
Roy was born June 15, 1936, in Elgin, Pa., a son of the late George F. and Mary Lillian Rose Palmer.
Roy was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry Area High School in 1954. Following his graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in Oklahoma, France and England from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Upon his return, he owned and operated Palmer Construction in the Corry area for many years.
Roy was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose - Union City Lodge 882, Union City, Pa., and Veterans of Foreign War Post 264 Corry, Pa.
Back in the day, Roy and his friends enjoyed watching the Erie Hockey Team. In recent years, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins fan and a fan of NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson. He would attend events when he could or cheer them on from his chair.
Roy enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. He and his wife Alice traveled across the United States and Canada with their camper. They experienced the scenery of our country and visited several national parks along their journey. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman, often in the woods and waters of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada looking for whitetail deer, turkey, bear, elk, moose and fish.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret “Jean” Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Alice B. Halfast Palmer, whom he married Sept. 19, 1998, in Spartansburg, Pa.; a daughter, Becky Bartholomew and her husband, John, of Harrison City, Pa.; a son, Fred Palmer and his wife, Cheryl, of East Falmouth, Mass.; a sister, Marjorie Shaver and her husband, Jim, of Corry, Pa.; and three brothers, Charles Palmer and his wife, Kathleen, of Corry, Pa., James Palmer and his wife, Sally, of Bay City, Texas, and Robert Palmer and his wife, Mary, of Spartansburg, Pa.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nick, Andrew and Jeana Bartholomew of Harrison City, Pa., Jon Palmer of San Antonio, Texas, and Becca Claussen and her husband, Erik, of Vineyard Haven, Mass., and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a Remembrance Open House at Roy’s home, 20023 Hammond Road, Corry, Pa., on Saturday, April 20, 2019, from 2 to 6 p.m. Family has asked that you please bring some stories to share.
