James E. Becker Jr., 83, of East South Street, Corry, Pa., died Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at Embassy of Park Avenue, Meadville, Pa.
He was born July 1, 1937, in Arnold, Pa., a son of the late James E. and Ruby Herrington Becker Sr.
Jim was raised and educated in Arnold, graduating from Arnold High School in 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served for four years on the US Quilback. After his honorable discharge, Jim went to Clarion State College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies. In 1962, he started working at Corry High School teaching several subjects while simultaneously achieving a master’s degree from Edinboro State College.He taught for 32 ½ years, retiring in 1994.
Jim volunteered with the American Red Cross and was on the Gold Commission and a chairman for a while. He was also Superintendent at North Hills Golf Course from the spring of 1975 until the fall of 1984. Jim was named Who’s Who of American Colleges. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn L. McGregor Becker, whom he married Jan. 23, 1960, in New Kensington, Pa; a son, James Becker III and his wife Ruthann of Titusville, Pa.; a brother, Barry Becker and his wife Sandy of Cleveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Jimmy and Lauran Becker.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
