Robert Sidney Hammond

Robert Sidney Hammond, 83, of Hammond Road, Corry, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at his home.

He was born March 22, 1936, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Howard James and Ruth Akam Hammond.

Bob was raised and educated in Corry where he attended the Hayes one room school, a short distance from his home, and graduated from Corry High School. Bob was married at a young age to Sylvia Anderson. He had been involved in dairy farming his entire life. He was raised and worked on the Concord Ridge family dairy farm on Hammond Road as a young boy with his family. Bob later became an Artificial Breeder for dairy farms while he lived in Dempsytown, Pa. In 1958, he bought the McCray Dairy Farm on Nancy Hill Road where he lived until 1985 when he moved West and eventually moved to Casa Grande, Ariz., where he lived until 2007. In 2008, Bob moved back to Corry.

He was an avid reader and had an interest in UFOs. He especially enjoyed visiting friends and family and was a follower of Christ. Bob left us with a rich legacy of humor, observance and honor as he was a Hammond after all.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Mary Beth Hammond; two sisters, Peggy Bryant and Mary Lou Sammons; and a brother, H. James Hammond II.

Bob is survived by four daughters, Laurie Cox and her husband Jeff of Corry, Pa., Ellen Gerzina and her husband Michael of Cupleper, Va., Julie Costales of Bosque Farms, N.M., and Andrea Higgins and her husband Kiel of Albuquerque, N.M.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Nick) Leonard, Emily Gerzina, and Rachel and Jacob Gordon; a great-granddaughter, Marilynn Leonard and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at 11 a.m. Pastor Dan McEldowney will officiate.

A luncheon will be provided at 12:30 p.m. by the McCray Church on Route 89 in Corry following the memorial service. All are welcome to attend. At this time, a Celebration of Life will be held.

If one wishes to make a memorial donation, the family has noted he loved reading books and newspapers at the Corry Public Library, 117 W. Washington St., Corry, PA 16407,  plus he loved his Sweet William flowers so toss a packet in your garden this spring.
