Naomi “Nicky” Groves, 58, of 184 Fiddler Hill Road, Youngsville, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the John and Orpha Hospice Residence in Warren after a long battle with cancer.
She was born October 1, 1952, in Ackley, Pa., a daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Hicks Milks Nichols.
Nicky worked as a hairdresser with Joyce Russell for 30 years and at Lawson’s greenhouse in Youngsville.
She was an avid gardener and enjoyed quilting and woodworking. Nicky was a very active member of the Free Methodist Church in Youngsville.
Most of all, her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Nicky is survived by her husband, Raymond “Kayo” Groves, whom she married on June 4, 1972, in Sugar Grove, Pa.; a daughter, Tara (Mike) Baker and their children, Madison and Braydon; a son, John (Miranda) Groves and their children, Jimmy, Patrick, Keeley and Brody of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; five brothers, Randy (Debbie) Milks of Kiatone, N.Y., Jack (Sheri) Nichols of Busti, N.Y , Ed (Kathy) Nichols of Sheridan, N.Y, Kenneth Johnstone of Jamestown, N.Y., and Ronald (Paula) Johnstone of Jamestown, N.Y.; a sister, Barb (Tom) Gustafson of Busti, N.Y..; her “adopted” mother, Annette Fox of Monroe, N.C.; and a special friend, Mary Moore of Youngsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Milks and Virgil Nichols; and a sister, Helen Sudul.
Friends were received Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St. in Youngsville. A funeral service was held Monday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 240 E. Main St., with the Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lottsville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Free Methodist Church Building Fund; the Warren Cancer Center, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365; or to Hospice of Warren County, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365.
