Shirley L. Troyer, 84

Shirley L. Troyer, 84, of East Pleasant Street, Corry, (Elgin Borough), died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Shirley was born March 5, 1927, a daughter of the late James Ray and Lola Bisbee Proper.

She was raised and educated in Elgin, and over the years, Shirley had been employed at various local area businesses, including Elgin Electronics, Corry Jamestown Corp. and Erie Plastics. For more than 30 years, she had worked at Troyer Farms Potato Products in Waterford, and retired from there in 1997. Shirley’s main priority in life was raising and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Elgin United Methodist Church.

Shirley enjoyed making candy and watching game shows on television. She also liked to play bingo and the lottery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Gertrude Proper; two sisters, Dorothy Babcock and Bernice Kimmy; and six brothers, Lee, Clifford, Clarence, Milton and Russell Proper and Robert Smith.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Beverly Burton and her husband, James of Elgin, and Lola Brown and her companion, Jeff Davis, of Spartansburg; a son, Daniel Troyer and his wife, Ronna, of Columbus; five sisters, Margaret Vandercoy of Elgin, Bonnie Thieme, Luella Thieme, Lucille Raymond and Faith Fenno; and a brother, Rex Proper.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tammy Stoddard and her husband, Steve, Rob Burton and his wife, Mary, Jim Troyer and his wife, Heather, Janelle Troyer and her companion, Brian Leupold, Jasmine Chiarmonte and her husband, Vince, and Wendell Anderson and his wife, Tina; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Elgin United Methodist Church, North Main Street. Elgin. The Rev. Lawrence Scofield will officiate.

Burial will be in Wattsburg Cemetery, Wattsburg.
