Kenneth K. “Whitey” Knight, 70, of State Highway 8, Centerville, Pa., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Erie.
Mr. Knight was born Nov. 21,1939, in Titusville, Pa., a son of Mildred Morris Knight of Centerville and the late Kenneth B. Knight.
He was raised and educated in Spartansburg and Titusville and graduated from Titusville High School in 1957. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for two years.
After his discharge, he returned to the Centerville area and worked for several lumber mills and for the Riley Stoker Co. in Erie where he was a pipe fitter. Mr. Knight later was employed by Foamex in Corry and retired from there in 2002 after more than 30 years of service with the company.
He had resided in Corry from 1968 until 2002 when he moved to Centerville. Mr. Knight was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, both in Union City, Pa.
He enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed growing tomatoes and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Mr. Knight was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cindy Elaine Knight, in 1973; and by a brother, Charles L. Knight.
Besides his mother, Mr. Knight is survived by two sons, Bill Knight and his wife, Kathryn, and Kendrick Knight and his wife, Amanda, all of Corry; a sister, Karen M. Appling of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Samuel Knight and his wife, Jean, of Lincolnville; four grandchildren, Isaac, Isabel, Keira and Kenzie Knight; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 211 Mechanic St., Spartansburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Brian Eiss will officiate.
Burial will be held privately by his family.
