Barbara “Bobbie” (Maynard) Howell, 79, of Sundback Road, Spartansburg, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, following an extended illness.
“Bobbie” was born on Oct. 21, 1939, in Corry, the daughter of the late James A. Maynard, Sr. and Vivian “Ma” Alford Maynard Ayers.
She eloped and married the late Andrew Howell in 1955. While working to raise her family on their Sundback Road farm in Spartansburg, she also had worked at Raymond Manufacturing, Corry Jamestown, Molded Fiber Glass and Ethan Allen. She was a hard worker and took pride in her work.
Bobbie was at one time actively involved with the Sparta Spurs 4H Club, the Spartanburg Fair 5K Race Committee and enjoyed shooting pool and was on a bowling league. She was always up for a good time and a good laugh with friends and family. She was also a big fan of Little Britches Rodeo and the Sparta Spurs 4H Club.
She is survived by her three children, Darlene Howell Sweetland of Santa Rosa, California, her sons, Andrew “Larry” (Debra) Howell of Spartansburg and Robert (Jamie) Howell of Billings, Montana; her six grandchildren, Lacey (Mike) Merrill, Josh (Brandy) Howell, Matthew (Lisette) Sweetland, Lindsay (Bryant) Helvey, Carter Howell and Chase Howell; and her seven great-grandchildren in the states of Washington, California, Georgia and Pennsylvania. She was very proud of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and followed their activities and accomplishments in the horse, dog and rodeo arenas very closely. She enjoyed NASCAR and talking cars and drivers with a special niece, Eve Marie Maynard Passmore.
Additional survivors include the family of her very special sister, Betty Maynard (Norman, Dean and Lisa); and a brother, Charles “Butch”(Sandy) Maynard; and a sister-in-law, Doris Maynard.
Many nieces and nephews will remember the antics, the ways and the stories of their “Aunt Bobbie.” Visits to Bobbie and Andy’s farm were always a special treat!
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andy; a brother, James A. Maynard Jr.; and a special brother-in-law, Wayne Maynard.
