Miriam Martin Swiencki, 84, formerly of E. 24th St., died Saturday morning, February 13, 2010, at Sarah Reed Retirement Center following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of her life, she was born in Erie, August 26, 1925, daughter of Clement Martin, Sr. and Myrtle Bolkey Martin Ritter.

She was employed in the bakery at the Super Duper on Elm St. and previously worked at the former Erie Resistor Corp. She attended Roosevelt Junior High School and Strong Vincent H.S. She loved to read and do puzzles, enjoyed the casinos and was an avid bingo player. At one time, Miriam was one of the Dancing Mothers at Little Dance Studio.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Walczak and her husband, Peter, of Erie, Debra Tupitza and her husband, Ted, of North East, and Barbara Beer of Erie; five sisters, Sue Lisenby and her husband, Van, of Louisiana, Dorothy Crock of Virginia, Geraldine “Honey” Baker of Erie, Sally McCallion and her husband, James, of Erie, and Joanne Ritter of California; one sister-in-law, Mary Ritter, of Erie; four brothers, William Martin and his wife, Dawn, of Louisiana, Richard “Butch” Martin and his wife, Lupe, of Louisiana, Michael Ritter and his wife, Joann, of Erie, and Thomas Ritter and his wife, Mary Ann, of Erie; and her only living aunt, Kathleen Schaaf, 101 years young in California. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Peanut.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Z. Swiencki, of 50 years in 2001; one daughter, Kathleen Rogers-Engle; two brothers, Clement “Buddy” Martin, Jr, and Robert “Skip” Ritter; and one sister, Barbara Martin-Barrett.
