Harold W. Rhodes Sr., 81, of Wright Street, Corry, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at his daughter, Ladean’s home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born July 21, 1938, in Corry, Pa., son of the late Walter D. Rhodes and June A. Mack Rhodes.
Harold was raised and educated in Corry. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1958. He served four years of active duty, as an Airman 2nd Class Mechanic. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Corry and worked at Elgin Electronics. He then went to work for Kafferlin’s Sales and Service for over 25 years, becoming a Parts Manager. He moved on to several other jobs which included driving truck for Alexander’s, driving cars for the Corry Auto Auction, Foamex, and most recently driving for the Corry Cab Co.
He was a past member of the Stanford Hose Co. in Corry. He became a member in 1971 after several firefighters lost their lives in the Easter Fire. He was a member for several years moving up the ranks to serve as Captain.
Harold was an active member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 769 in Corry. He served in all chairs including five times as the Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Corry Moose Lodge, VFW, American Legion and the Corry Central Labor Club.
His hobbies over the years included: Tuesday night men’s pool league, bowling, working on race cars, collecting coins, belt buckles and Eagles. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobile racing, fly fishing and hunting. He always enjoyed dancing with his wife!
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Jackson Rhodes, whom he married on July 11, 1981, in Corry, Pa. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Virginia Rhodes Whitling; his niece, Clarissa Whitling Hoyt; and his great-grandson, Ayden Isaac Rhodes.
Harold is survived by three sons, Harold Rhodes Jr. and wife Linda, Terry Rhodes and Barry Rhodes and wife Ronda; two daughters, Ladean Daniels and Hope Glover and her husband Eric; two stepsons, Jerry Hayes and fiancée, Mandi, and Jamie Hayes; a sister, Rosalind Small and husband Jim; and a brother, Charles Rhodes and wife Betty.
Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may join us for a Celebration of Life at the Corry Moose Lodge on Sept. 29, 2019, from 1 to 4 p.m.
