Lloyd R. Gates, 80, of Stewart Road, Corry, Pa., died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Corry Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Gates was born September 19, 1930, in Corry, Pa., the son of the late Earl and Belle Silloway Gates.
He was raised and educated in Corry and attended Corry area schools.
He had been a dairy farmer his entire life. He worked on the family farm as a young boy and eventually became owner and operator of the family farm. He also owned Lloyd Gates and Sons Minneapolis-Moline Tractor business from 1968 to 1972. He retired from farming in 1997.
Lloyd was a member of the Corry Central Labor Club, Corry VFW Post 264 and the Farmer’s Grange. He enjoyed playing Yahtzee, going to flea markets, and going for drives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gates was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda M. Gates, on January 10, 1997. They were married on April 11, 1959, in Clymer, N.Y.
He was also preceded in death by one half-sister, Arlene Canfield; and two half brothers, Carl and John Vettenburg.
He is survived by his companion, Anna Piotrowski, of Corry; one daughter, Deborah Schwab, of Erie, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Donna Cox and her husband, David, of Butler, Pa.; six sons, Steven Gates and his wife, Debra, of Corry, Dean Gates and his wife, Anne, of Corry, Dan Gates and his wife, Laurie, of Corry, Thomas Gates and his wife, Virginia, of Columbus, Pa., Michael Gates and his wife, Doreen, of Union City, Pa., and Mark Gates of Girard, Pa.; one stepson, Robert Clayton and his wife, Debra, of Florida.
Lloyd is also survived by two sisters, Martha Buterbaugh of Fairview, Pa., and Donna Fox and her husband, Carl, of Florida; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, including a niece he raised, June VanDresar of Corry.
Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. They may also attend a funeral service Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Lynn Cirigliano will officiate.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
